North Carolina teacher stomps on the American flag
Recently this past September, a teacher in North Carolina, Lee Francis, stomped on the American Flag while teaching his class. Francis, who teaches history, asked his students for some scissors and a lighter, according to Sarah Taylor, a student in his class. When no one provided him with scissors and a lighter, he threw the American Flag on the floor and stomped on it. He has been suspended until further notice.
This did not only affect readers across the United States, it also affected a student in Francis’s class, Alex Dunn, who is an American patriot and especially loves the American flag and what it represents. When he saw his teacher destroying the American flag he decided to step in.
Dunn stated, “I have a father in the the military who taught me the way to respect the flag.” When Dunn saw this it angered him that our country was getting disrespected like that. He felt he had to speak up for our country and had patriots across the fruited plain cheering.
Dunn explains that it did not only disgrace him but military children. Dunn said, “It was such a disgraceful thing for a person to do – especially in front of so many military children who understand the meaning of the flag – apparently unlike him.”
He also said that when his teacher stomped on the flag he thought of all the men and women who fought for our country and how he just stomped all over them. At that moment Dunn took a picture of the teacher’s sickening action, picked up the flag and took the defiled banner to the principal.
Francis claims that Dunn broke the law when he marched to the principal’s office with his protests. Francis said, “I believe that child does need to be punished in some way – absolutely,” the teacher told me. “I can’t take a picture of them, and, in turn, they cannot do the same of me.”
Dunn’s parents told Fox News how proud they were of his son for taking a stand for our country and for the military students in the class. Francis believes that Dunn’s actions were completely inappropriate and it was right to show his obvious feelings to the class. Francis Dunn stood up for many other students who could not stand up to the disrespecting of the flag.

Dear Samantha,
Thank you so much for writing this article! What a wonderful thing you have done for me in reading this at the end of a long day in my classroom. And special thanks to North Carolina student Alex Dunn who stood up for our country’s greatness in the face of another, and unfortunately a teacher in this case, trying to impose their views on others. America, with all its faults, is still the model for the rest of the world, just as the founding fathers designed. And this is certainly something which far too many Americans take for granted today.
