Touro College plans to build in Naugatuck

The Touro College and University System was established in 1970. The goal was to focus on higher education within the Jewish community. According to their website their common goal is  to get the best possible education, to find a promising professional career, and to do so in an environment that respects and supports their backgrounds and beliefs.

Touro offers many fields of study including, law, business, technology, Jewish studies and more. They believe they give their students all the tools and support they need to be able to thrive in the workforce and the real world.

Since then, they have grown into 29 schools, in 4 different countries, teaching over 18,000 students.

Touro is always looking to expand and build more schools for the Jewish community and in mid October they submitted an application to the borough of Naugatuck Connecticut for a school, dormitories, faculty housing, and 86 housing units to be built. The prospective location is May Street.

According to the Citizen News the plans submitted to Naugatuck calls for the land to be split into two sections. One 49 acre section would contain 3 small parks, and some houses, while the 7 acre section would include a gymnasium, faculty housing, dorms, and the school itself.

Touro is responding to the Jewish communal leaders of Waterbury who believe that a high school in the area would be good to help service their youth.
