The best college athletes are going to school for free. A free college education is something many dream of and would love to have, yet so many athletes in college complain about it, because they want even more money. For years college athletes have argued that they should be paid, while receiving a 50,000 dollar college education for free. The main goal of college is to get educated so finding a job in the real world is easier, and if playing college sports is the education athletes want to go pro, then it is their choice.

Steve Marinaro, a future college athlete said, “I’m going to college to play baseball, but more importantly get an education. I don’t believe I should be paid because they’re giving me money towards my schooling, which is more important to me than baseball.”

Some college athletes come from almost nothing and their argument for getting paid is that they would like to give back to the people who raised them but just like any other job, they have to go through college first before getting paid. If someone wants to be a doctor to give back to the people who raised them, they have to go to school before getting a job and getting paid, so why should athletes be treated differently?

College athletes believe that since they are putting their bodies on the line and are risking injury that can impact their pro career, they should be paid for the games they play in college.

Athletes live under a microscope and are idolized by many young kids. If they get paid in college, before anyone else, all kids would want to do is be a college athlete. No kid would want to go to school to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or a teacher, or a dentist, all they would want to be is an athlete, because you get paid before anyone else. Athletes shouldn’t be treated different from any other profession and all though they work hard in college sports, so do the students in the classroom and paying the athletes would be totally unfair.

A college tuition is not cheap and it sends some people into lifelong debt. The purpose of college is so getting a well paying job is easier. Athletes who go to college for free, then are fortunate enough to go pro, never have to worry about college debt while making millions. Other people who go to expensive colleges and aren’t fortunate enough to get a well paying job, have debts from college for many, many years.

So, receiving top tier college education for free, while others pay thousands of dollars, and not having to worry about debt for the rest of their lives, college athletes have it made pretty nicely. They don’t need to be paid for playing college sports, when they are already getting paid the best salary of all, education.
