Manchester United brings dreams alive
Samuel is just like any other 11 year old boy growing up in England, he shares the passion for the sport of football. It is one of the things he treasures the most, despite his disabilities. Samuel suffers from a rare condition called Cerebral Palsy. This rare condition is something that Samuel was unfortunately born with, and without any sort of cure it is irreversible. However, this has never hindered him from doing what he aspires to do or be.
Samuel’s condition, Cerebral Palsy, or more commonly known as CP has left many everyday things very difficult to complete. It is a birth defect that can affect the basic muscle coordinations and impairs the movement of major muscle groups. Thus, making physical activities sometimes challenging.
Cerebral Palsy can make anything from tying cleats for training to walking around his school yard in a walker a challenge. For those living with CP it has even lowered the average life expectancy. It has been recorded that people have passed away as soon as the age of 30. Therefore, its makes many activities much more difficult to do.
However, even with all this it still doesn’t stop Samuel from pursuing his passion of playing football, and with the limited amount of time he has.
Samuel’s position in football is a goalkeeper. This is also said to be one of the most challenging positions in this sport. In every sport it is very demanding not only mentally but just as much physically. What Samuel may lack in the physical aspect of football he can easily make up for it with his optimistic mindset. This is due to Samuel’s exemplary mentality, he is able to remain positive and hopeful even with all the odds stacked up against him. “Playing football is a bit difficult but I don’t really take that as a big issue, I just get on with it,” he said.
Even with all of these amazing traits he still wouldn’t have ever gotten the chance to play the passion of his life if it weren’t for the help of Manchester United. Manchester United, an extremely successful football team which has won countless amount of titles has had incredible players go through their system and has even opened the door of opportunity for many other just like Samuel.
Through their fund raisers and charity events. Manchester United is not only successful worldwide but also within their own country by provide these amazing chances for those like Samuel.
The Manchester United Foundation not only gave Samuel a chance to play football but they also offered him a chance to meet the first team members, Samuel’s role models.
This was the happiest experience that he had ever had “Going to the training ground was the best day of my life, “ said Samuel.
De Gea, a first team goalkeeper, and a world class athlete even gave him a pair of his official match gloves. Samuel stated, “De Gea gave me his actual gloves, which was better than anything I have ever got.”
With all this being said it is very safe to say that Samuel is inspirational to all different groups of people. He never steps down from a challenge and is always willing to experience new things, and meet new people. Hopefully through his acts of courageous and exemplary attitude he will able to show others like him that you can always chase your dreams no matter what life hands you.
