United Airlines faces new scandals
For those who may not be aware of what United Airlines is, they are an international airline business based out of Chicago, Illinois. In the past, they were a successful traveling business because of their affordable costs and the American standard provided.
But within recent times the business that was once very popular among many travelers dipped in the traveling market. This recent loss in interest was linked to a string of controversies that has sprung up during the airline’s last few flights.
The agency issues all began with a dress code violation. On March 27, 2017, while boarding a flight in Denver, Colorado, two teenage girls were unable to board. A decision made solely based on the fact of what the two were wearing. They were both denied access of traveling to their destination because of the pants they wore, leggings.
The situation stirred up lots of noise in the in media, but United airline employees responded by saying, “I don’t make the rules, I just enforce them”. According to NBC News.
Whenever or not the company needs to redo the policy, it isn’t the only situation they have on their hands. In fact, it isn’t even their worst problem at the moment.
On the morning of April 11, 2017. David Dao, an elderly family man and doctor. A person who enjoyed living a simple and peaceful lifestyle, Dao pursued a career as a doctor that was led by his passion of helping to those in need. “I won’t go, I’m a physician I have to work tomorrow, 8 o’clock”, as stated in a People’s human interest story. He made it very clear that he placed he needed to be, people he needed to attend.
However, his calm lifestyle was put to a traumatic stop, Dao life was forever changed after boarding a United airline flight. Due to his career there is always a constant need for him to be in different places at different times. And as a result of this is there’s constant need to travel.
But this case wasn’t anything work related, he simply returning back from a much need break from demanding career.
While for the most part, Dao is able to travel comfortably and without any interruptions. This was not the case in this situation. After boarding, the United airline passengers were made aware that the flight have been over booked. Due to the lack of availability of sitting for the flight attendant staff.
In this scenario, the procedure is commonly taken before boarding the plane. The agencies will often offer an alternative to avoid conflict. Many times they’ll give passengers that are willing to give their sit up some sort of voucher.
Vultures that could go up to $1,300 in severe cases. However, there is no obligation to accept the offer and give up your seat once boarded, according to to United Airline current policy. This was the case that took place with Dr.Dao. Unfortunately the situation was poorly handled by the united airline staff and security.
When asked if Dao would be willing to give up his seat, he refused to do so. He took the flight for work reasons. But, the United Airlines still insisted. They kept reasoning with him against his will, they offered him a $800 voucher in exchange for the sit. Regardless of the offers, he stayed strong to his beliefs and continued to refuse giving his sit up.
Suddenly, this is when things took a turn for the worse. When the airline was desperate to take flight, they resulted and fell back to violence in order to solve the conflict. As Dao and many others passagers calmly stayed sitted while waiting for the flight to board he was ambushed by airport security. The extremely rude and rough act towards the elderly man left him with many injuries. They simply ripped him off his chair in a very unsafe manner, as they proceeded to so had actually dragged him down the airplane aisle. This left Dao with a broken nose, bruised ribs, a busted lip and countless other injuries to add more suffering.
Dao daughter, Crystal Pepper even stated, “What happened to my dad should never have happened to any human being, regardless of the circumstances”. According to a People’s human interest article.
Fortunately for Dao someone was able to recorded this incident through via their smartphone device. Now with countless amounts of eye witnesses and the actual footage uptain of the united airlines employees physically mistreating him, it will make the court battle much less challenging to go through. Hopefully with this there could be a better opportunity to help fight what many others have suffered with similar incidents through the power of justice.
