59 dead, over 500 injured in mass shooting in Las Vegas
On Sunday, October 1st, 59 people were killed at an outdoor music festival by a single gunman on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, a casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Wounding 527 others, Sunday night’s tragic event in Las Vegas officially constitutes as the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history, thanks to now dead Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old retiree with no criminal record.
The outdoor venue consisted of over 22,000 country-concert goers, and showed no threat to its people until Paddock ended the concert with his “act of pure evil” says President Donald Trump.
To make things more horrific, police say the gunshots lasted between nine and eleven minutes, having the first report of shots fired at 10:08 p.m., and the event of gunfire not finishing until 10:19pm, said Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill.
Despite the 23 weapons found in the killer’s hotel room, as well as additional 19 firearms and explosives etc in his Mesquite home, Paddock has no criminal record– which is why the country is skeptical and concerned about this horrific tragedy.
Evan Paddock, Stephen Paddock’s brother, arrived in Las Vegas to both cooperate with investigators in figuring out the killer’s motive, and retrieve his brother’s body for cremation back in Orlando, Florida.
What is also yet to be determined is the precise use for several cameras set up both in and outside of Paddock’s suite, though it can be assumed the intent was for keeping an eye out for anyone approaching the room because of one camera in particular pointing out of the peep-hole of the room’s door.
However, new information will continue to open doors in what has really been happening behind the scenes of Paddock’s meticulous scheme, say investigators. A note found in his hotel room has been indicated by Sheriff Joe Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to be anything but a suicide note.
Other information regarding money wired to Paddock’s girlfriend Marilou Danley and his decades uncovered of leading a secret life has led investigators to believe Paddock was planning to escape, but had this plan shut down when police showed at the site of the crime before he could get away. Two on-duty police officers were injured by Paddock as a result, as well as a hotel security guard who was shot through the door as he approached Paddock’s suite.
As of now, constant updates in the investigation are arising as both facts and fake news in the media allow the public to contribute to the debate of gun lawns and the answer of why this tragic event took place.

Dear Jillian,
I found your article to be informative and insightful. I was made aware of several facts in the piece that I did not know about. I have a question for you: though this was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, do you know how it rates in terms of world history – modern or pre-20th century? Just curious. I’d be willing to bet it was the deadliest shooting in the entire history of the world (not including bombings of course) – although I haven’t done any research to back that up.
Also, did you happen to find out the status of his girlfriend vis-a-vis the police investigation? How much of a role (if any) did she play in the planning, or did she even know about it at all? You hint at the possibility of a secret life on his part but I would be interested in any additional information you could uncover.
Thank you so much – you wrote a really good, objective article!
