Twelve year old succumbs to bullying
Gabriella Green took her own life on January 10, 2017 after complaining to her mom about some “girl drama” that has been going on in her middle school.
Gabriella Peyton Green, known best as Gabbie, at the age of 12 was a young, beautiful girl. Born in Panama City Beach FL, she was a blond hair beauty with a smile that outshone the sun. You would have never known if she was ever being bullied at all because of that brightness.
Bullies stole her light.
Gabbie was a victim of cyberbullying that resulted in her short life. The one of the two accused girls said that she intended to cause problems between Gabbie and another girl, by making harsh comments both verbally and electronically. The rumors said about her were about her having a transmitted disease, name calling and threats to expose personal and sensitive information about Gabbie’s life.
There was also a accused boy that Gabbie spoke to on a video chat telling him she was going to kill herself, by which he responded in a way that said, “if you’re going to do it, just do it.”
Tanya Green, Gabriella’s mother, said the arrests were “gratifying” but that her daughter had to suffer in silence “with a smile on her face,” the Panama City News reports.
Reading about Gabbie’s story we find many kids around theses ageas with the thought of suicide in their heads. No one ever knows until the day comes because they hide it inside, until the day it happens. Reading Gabbie story we see the same reason to why kids are going into the darkness, bullying.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.
Thousands of kids a year are mistreated for no reason other than dislike.
Thousands of kids a year choose to keep quiet instead of speaking out.
Thousands of kids a year choose the only way they see out, by taking their own lives.
Gabbie was one of those kids. She would come home and say she’s okay, she would receive texts, emailed all containing lies about a rumor that was spread. Instead of asking her if it true those around her decided that it was true for her.
Her mother words share who her daughter is, “She is the most precious, beautiful, sweet, boisterous little 12 year old baby. She is the light of our house and lives. She brightened up every single aspect of life. She was the strongest, determined, most competitive girl.”
On January 14, 2018 a gofundme page was created to raise expenses for this unexpected occurrence. Out of the goal fifteen thousand a total of about two thousand six hundred was given to the family. Along with the money words of encouragement were provided to the family informing them that they are not alone.
Gabriella Elisa says, “I did not know her personally, but I do know that she is such a precious angel. Bullying needs to stop and people need to learn how to think before they speak,” and many more follow.
We can all agree that bullying is world wide epidemic, especially in teens and it needs to be address. With bullying comes depression, and isolation. These signs need to be looked at in order to stop the treatment from getting worse.
What isn’t really said about Gabriella Green is before she was a target for the bullies she was one of the kids who helped those who were bullied before her. When they turned to her in the end, there was no one to help her. Those who she helped pick up when they fell never grabbed her hand when she was reaching up.
She was strong and her smile will never be forgotten along with the help she offered to others.
In a statement made by her parents they said, “As parents, we struggle to deal (with) the loss of a piece of ourselves. Our only strength is in the resolve of the lesson taught by our daughter — to stand up for our child as she stood up for other children.”
