Celebrating Women’s History Month – the women who empower us through fashion
Today in the world of fashion many men run the famous companies we see, including Alexander Wang, Raf Simons, Balmain, Balenciaga, etc. The women we see in the fashion industry showing off these beautiful looks are celebrities and other models. However, women are moving into leadership in the fashion industry at an amazing rate.
Women like Miuccia Prada, Maria Grazia Chiuri, and Donatella Versace have made such a huge impact on today’s fashion. The looks and pieces these women are creating are revolutionary.
Miuccia Prada, the granddaughter of Mario Prada, took over the company in 1978. Since then, she has been creating the most iconic pieces for the brand itself. The looks that she has assembled that appear on the runway are breathtaking.
Maria Grazia Chiuri worked at Valentino from 1999-2016, then she moved to becoming the creative director of Dior in 2016. Maria says to Vogue that the brand is not about activism; it’s about female empowerment.
Many see the fashion industry as a male dominate business. With how many men in the industry directing the looks and fashion shows, women are overlooked.
Donatella Versace was vice president before her brother Gianni died in 1997, but now she is the creative director of the company, creating an image for the brand that is her own while she is honoring her brother.
Miuccia Prada, Maria Grazia Chiuri, and Donatella Versace are just a few of the women in the fashion business that create looks and design companies that are made to empower women and show that even when there is a male dominant industry, women can still succeed.
