Harry Potter actor dies at 72
Iconic and loveable British actor Robbie Coltrane, from the Harry Potter films, died on October 14, 2022, at the age of 72.
After being admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Scotland, Coltrane passed away while being treated for multiple organ failures, a heart blockage, and a lower respiratory tract infection.
The loss of this light-hearted comedic actor has fans, friends, family, and fellow actors grieving. The cast of the award-winning Harry Potter series is particularly mourning the loss of this “Loveable giant,” who portrayed Hagrid as a friendly and loyal wizard in the well-known series.
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed,” star and former colleague, Daniel Radcliffe said to People Magazine.
“I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on (2004’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up,” Radcliffe added.
Coltrane first made his acting debut in the movie The Lost Tribe in 1980 with the role of Border Post Guard, at the age of 30. Following this role, he later starred in movies such as GoldenEye, Ocean’s Twelve, Message in a Bottle, Krull, and Gooby.
Coltrane touched the lives of millions of fans and supporters. “He was definitely a comfort character of many and will be missed by his colleagues and fans of the series,” says Sydney Connolly, a sophomore at Naugatuck High School and fellow fan of the famous series.
