LONDON— On Friday, September 22nd, comedian Russell Brand responded to the allegations made by five women of “sexual assaults and emotional abuse” and in one case, rape.
While the majority of the sexual crimes took place in London from the year of 2006 to 2013, according to CNN, “We have also received a number of allegations of sexual offenses committed elsewhere in the country and will investigate these. The offenses are all non-recent,” it added.
The women chose not to be identified by name in the report, according to The Times.
Officers are in contact with one of the women and they, according to CNN, “will be providing her with support.”
Brand issued a response to the allegations made against him between 2006 and 2013 in a video titled “So, This Is Happening.”
According to Reuters, Brand rejected the “very serious criminal allegations”, saying in the video on his social media channel that he had never had non-consensual sex with any of the women. He has also stated that he “absolutely refutes” the “astonishing, rather baroque attacks” against him.
Russell Brand is an English actor and comedian who had a breakthrough in 2008 from a role he played in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. He was also featured in an NBC News article, married Katy Perry in 2010, and got divorced in 2011.
In the year 2006, before this rise to fame, according to NBC News “In the Sept. 2023 report, a woman says she was sexually assaulted by Brand during a three-month relationship when she was 16”.
It is also reported that in 2007 Brand had had a “six-month relationship with Jordan Martin, who has since accused him of sexual assault”.
After his “glory years”, according to NBC News “A businesswoman alleges in the Sept. 2023 report that she was raped by Brand at his L.A. home in 2012”.
A woman who said she met Russell Brand at an AA meeting alleged that he had also attacked her in his home in L.A. in 2013.
Brand has now brought his response to social media and is trying to get his fan’s help to help clear his name.
“Keep me and our channel independent. I need your support, now more than ever. More than I imagined I would,” Brand concludes. “More important than any of that is that you please, if you can, stay free.”
YouTube no longer allows Brand’s channel to be profitable and his live tour has been postponed since the sexual assault and emotional abuse allegations.
