The Hero of Amy Beverland Elementary
Susan Jordan was a long time principal at Amy Beverland Elementary School. She tragically died on Tuesday January 26 when she was hit by a bus that for some reason drove onto the curb. Two 10-year-olds that almost got hit by the bus were sent to the hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. Mrs. Jordan pushed these children out of the way before any worse injuries happened and was fatally injured in the process and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mrs. Jordan is now being remembered as a hero because she saved several students from getting injured. Lawrence Mayor Steve Collier spoke briefly at her funeral, saying, “What an unbelievably impactful life Susan had.” Because of her impressive career as a principal and her devotion to the kids.
A funeral was held for the principal on Friday at the parking lot of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, where more than three hundred people went to say goodbye by the beloved principal who had impacted many people’s lives in different ways.
The mayor, Joe Hogsett, spoke at her funeral saying that her decision to save the students didn’t make her a hero because she had been a hero long before that moment. Her dedication and the way she lived is what makes the city a place worth calling home. “She gave her life for her children, and she gave her life for her children,” Lisa Jankowski, Jordan’s daughter.¨
There has been no signs of the bus driver being impaired or mechanical issues with the bus itself. So there has been no real evidence of what cause the bus to drive onto the curb.
There will not be anymore investigation about the accident because they can’t do anything that they can dig deeper on.
Mrs. Jordan was certainly a lovely person in the town’s eyes so much that more than a hundred and sixty people are working together signing a petition to rename the elementary school after the beloved principal. The students, parents and co-workers want her memory to never fade and to always honor the heroic act she did.
