The Queen gives back

Queen of rap, Nicki Minaj has generously graced her fan base, recently rebranded and newly titled The Kingdom, with an announcement that she will be offering to pay some of her fans’ college tuition costs.

Onika Tanya Maraj, 34,  is a Trinidad and Tobago born rapper who got her start in Queens, New York. She started her career thirteen years ago and has since become a prominent figure in the rap, hip-hop, and pop genres. Her last studio album was titled The Pinkprint (2014) and she is expected to release a new album sometime this year.

On May 7th, Minaj was tweeting with some of her fans on twitter about how she would pay a fan’s international plane ticket if they won a contest in an upcoming awards show. One fan saw this and asked if Minaj would offer to pay her tuition which Minaj promptly responded with an affirmative.

Show me straight A’s that I can verify w/ur school and I’ll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?!‍♀️ Dead serious. Shld I set it up? https://t.co/czH715u64a

The only thing Minaj required from her fans is to maintain and prove a 4.0 GPA.

Minaj also paid for fans’ college books (which can cost up to the 1,000$s) and other school supplies on top of outstanding student loans.

Up to 31 fans were helped by Minaj and she spent around 30,000$ that weekend.

Minaj has also stated that she will be starting a charity for college students in the near future. Minaj is amongst the recent celebrities who have started to donate towards the educational costs of young people in America.

The most recent of those figures has been Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, who has released a couple of scholarships titled the “Formation Scholars” award.
