Naugy swimmers aim high
From 2006 to 2010 Naugatuck High School Swimming controlled the NVL, winning 5 straight NVL championships. From 2011-2014 Sacred Heart won it all and for the past two seasons Holy Cross has finished on top, beating NHS.
Naugy went into the 2016 NVL championship hoping to defeat Holy Cross but came up short, losing by 33.5 points. Holy Cross once again looks to be the biggest threat to Naugy’s championship hopes in the 2016-2017 season.
Ever since the early 2000’s Naugy and Holy Cross have engaged in a bitter rivalry. Neither team likes to lose and it’s an even bigger sting when the loss comes against one another.
It is no secret to the Greyhound swimmers that Holy Cross is the team they will have to beat.“Obviously winning the league is our main goal, but to do so we have to get through Holy Cross,” said junior Brian Goggin, a swimmer for Naugatuck’s team for three seasons.
Naugatuck will be led by a strong senior class, headlined by the 4 senior captains of Omari Solomon, Rob Spino, Evan Bombery, and PJ Morrissey.
“The first day of practice you could feel that we are hungry and ready to win,” added Goggin. “We’ll continue to work hard and push ourselves everyday.”
Bombery said that the new freshman on the team are a good, young group and their contributions could be a big addition to the team this year. He also added that the will, determination to win, and the idea of revenge, is going to help push the team a lot.
The Greyhounds will open up their season Tuesday December 20th at home against Kennedy.
I am a senior. I will be attending the University of Tampa as a journalism major in the fall of 2018.

Shows that Naugatuck still tries their hardest even if loses. Naugatuck does not give up until they win and I respect that.
