It’s a different sport than hockey and baseball
The Greyhounds are in the middle of a rebuilding season after losing a few key players and gaining key players this year. This Greyhounds are (1-10) this season and are led by new head coach Richard Troy, a Spanish teacher and Student Council advisor at Naugatuck High School.
Naugatuck top golfers for the 2017 season are Captain Colin Sheedy and new addition to the team, Zach Monck.
“I wanted to go out and enjoy myself and just be relaxed. It’s a different sport than hockey and baseball. I wanna go out and have a good time,” said senior Monck. Zach was a 2 year baseball player at the high school before transferring over to playing golf.
“I didn’t know I’d be the number two. Coach said if I keep performing at a high level I’d find myself in the number two spot. I got the opportunity and performed,” he said.
The Greyhounds are off to a slow start this season losing two big invitationals in Farmington and the Woodland invitational. This season the hounds are 1-10.
Although the Hounds are struggling they try to remain positive, according to Sheedy the team motto is “Shooter McGavin blew a four stroke lead in the back 9.” The team knows that this means that anything can happen – if you just keep playing your game.
The Greyhounds have a 21 player roster that includes 12 girls and 9 boys. The captain for the girls is Abi Pruchnicki she is a junior and a two year player for the hounds.
“I started out the season playing pretty well, but I had a bit of a lull towards the end. I wish I was able to improve more but overall I had a steady season,” said Pruchnicki.
As a captain Pruchnicki looks to lead the Greyhounds in the upcoming 2018 season .
The Hounds will use this motivation to push through the last half of this season and though the NVL Tournament.
I am a senior athlete, and I am looking forward to pursuing a career in communications, I will be attending Post University in the fall 2017.
