Kenneka Jenkins found in hotel freezer

Kenneka Jenkins, 19, was found dead in a walk in freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel in Rosemont after attending a party being held there.

Kenneka Jenkins left to go to the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel in Rosemont at approximately 11:30 PM On September 8th. Her last known contact was a text message to her sister at 1:30 AM on September 9th 2017.

Jenkins’ mother, Teresa Martin, lashed out at authorities and hotel staff whom she accused of waiting too long to review surveillance footage. The hotel staff told her that they required a missing person’s report to do so.

The hotel called the police after Teresa Martin and members of Jenkin’s family returned to the hotel for a third time and began knocking on guests’ doors looking for Kenneka.

Surveillance footage released from the hotel shows Kenneka and some friends walking together through the halls of the hotel. After a few hours’ time gap, Kenneka is seen staggering down the hallways by herself, stumbling out of the elevator, and repeatedly hits the wall as she walks down the corridor. Jenkins appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol on the video.

“I want to see her literally, actually walking into this freezer,” Teresa Martin, mother of Kenneka Jenkins mother stated to hotel officials.

Although the surveillance video does not record her going into the freezer herself, it also doesn’t show anyone else entering the room until a hotel worker finds her body 24 hours later.

On September 15th officers interviewed 25 people about Jenkins’ death. Sixteen were at the party with her that night.

A spokesman for the Crowne Plaza said Thursday that the hotel has offered to pay for Jenkins’s funeral.

“It is not money I want, I want justice,” said Martin.

The investigation is still ongoing. Investigators are waiting on toxicology reports to come back in order to move forward in their investigation.
