A battle between President Trump and the NFL rages on

A controversy and Twitter battle between the NFL and President Donald Trump occurred over the weekend between the Sunday and Monday games.

One of the motives for this act of civil disobedience was a protest against racial injustice. For an example the Steelers did not even go out for the anthem.

Teams such as the Chiefs, Dolphins, and Patriots all knelt.  The teams’ reasons differed. Some teams were protesting against racial injustice, and other teams were protesting directly against a statement made by President Trump.

“If the NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our flag and country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!”

However not all players took a knee during the anthem; many felt they owe respect to the country and the men and women who fight or fought for this country.

Donald Trump objects to players who kneel; he believes they are disrespecting the flag. Trump feels that any player who kneels should be suspended or fired.

I wore socks with the American flag. I believe in this country. I love this country. My father was in the Army. My older brother was in the Army,” said Devin McCourty, a player on the New England Patriots.

According to the New York Times Trump disrespected the flag himself. The New York Times states that Trump “shows actual disrespect for our flag, our Constitution, the rule of law, the separation of powers and even basic personal decency.”

While many American continue to argue the ethics of the battle between Trump and the NFL, others just want to move on.

“I think that politics should stay out of football,” said Mrs. Debbie Hernandez, teacher at NH
