California boy killed trying to protect younger sister

Dante Daniels, who had just started the third grade at South Sacramento’s Oakridge Elementary, was brutally beaten with a hammer during the early morning of September 1 while he was protecting his sister from being sexually assaulted by their mother’s former boyfriend.

He died from his injuries six days later.

According to Fox 40, Elizabeth Salone’s ex boyfriend Deandre Chaney pled no contest last year for failing to register as a sex offender. He was able to continue this poor behavior after being convicted of the same crime.

According to an arrest warrant, the children were home alone with Chaney when the attack happened. Salone had asked him to watch her children while she took her brother to work, the Sacramento Bee reports, that is when her daughter was sexually molested by Deandre at 5:30 in the morning.

The criminal complaint states that Deandre Chaney used lighter fluid during the second attack on Salone and her children, and at point turned the hammer and a knife on Dante’s sister.

Monique Brown, Salone’s mother and the grandmother of the two children stated, “ Trying to save his sister from this child molester and that’s why he was beat the worst.”

The guy beat my grandson with a hammer,” Brown, told Fox 40. “Down to his spine. They couldn’t save his brain.”

“[Elizabeth] will probably never see out of her left eye,” Brown said. “My granddaughter will need a lot of help.”

The family of Dante Daniels created a Gofundme action to raise donations for medical and funeral bills and made over $94,592 with 2,301 people in only 29 days.

This story has touched many people’s hearts.

“This story is heartbreaking, but that little king showed great courage and strength!!! He had more heart in his little body than a lot of these men out here. I am glad that you went well beyond your goal, but as far as I’m concerned nothing on this planet is as valuable as that little KING. I wish a real man was there to protect him and the other victims. MAY HE REST IN POWER, and GOD bless his family!!!” stated Clay Williams, one donator.

My heart breaks for this family. God blesses little warriors like this and he is in heaven now; Sweet Baby,” said Dana Minadeo, another contributor.

Brown said even after Dante’s death, he’s continuing to help people. A 4-year-old boy in California received Dante’s heart.
