Simpson released on parole

On October 1st, 2017 at 12:08 am on Sunday morning at Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Institute, Orenthal James “OJ” Simpson walked out of prison a free man. He was arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping on the night of September 13th, 2007. He served 9 years of a 33 year sentence behind bars.

On October 3, 2008, exactly 13 years after he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, Simpson was convicted and sentenced to 33 years in prison with chance of parole in 9 years. Simpson was convicted of 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, assault, and kidnapping with a deadly weapon. The confrontation in a Vegas hotel room was over sports memorabilia that Simpson claimed belonged to him.

This conviction was a relief to many as many believed he did commit the murders he was acquitted of.

On July 20th of this year Simpson had his parole hearing. All four parole members voted to grant him parole. Board Member Tony Corda even said he is a “low rise to reoffend.”

“I’ve done my time,” Simpson said to CNN. “I’ve done it as well and as respectfully as I think anyone can.”

According to the parole board, Simpson plans to live at his home in Las Vegas.
