Dr. Larry Nassar, former Olympic doctor, has treated several Olympic gold medalists. Unfortunately, in treating these athletes he molested 140 of them.

Nassar  became the doctor of the Olympic Gymnastics team in 1986.

Nassar was previously charged with having 37,000 pictures of child pornogrphy, and was sentenced to 60 years in prison, previous to these new allegations. However, recently, women are speaking out against Nassar, accusing him of molesting them. Nassar will be serving 175 years in prison for this crime.

Simone Biles is one of the many survivors sexually abused by Nassar. She expresses how she is no longer afraid to share her story, “I am not afraid to tell my story anymore.” Biles was scared to share her story because she and her teammates were taught to trust this adult.

According to the The New York Times, when these girls were younger, they saw Nassar as a father figure. They did not suspect this father figure would later on molest them.

Numerous girls spoke during his sentencing. In reaction to the girls testimonies, Nassar said that it was too painful to hear.

Several athletes as well are blaming USA Gymnastics for not taking action. According to Olivia Cowan, USA Gymnastics had knowledge of what Nassar was doing. She also claims that they turned a blind eye in order to maintain a good reputation. Michigan State University is also being accused of the same thing, however, MSU denies what the athletes are saying.

President of MSU, Jason Cody, told Huffington Post, “Any suggestion that the university covered up Nassar’s horrific conduct is simply false.” He admits that this man was “[c]hanging their lives in terrible ways.” The president then apologized for how these young ladies, at the time, were being sexually abused.

USA Gymnastics’s new CEO, Kerry Perry, recently said in response to the accusations, “[m]y focus is going to be creating an environment of empowerment where all have a strong voice and we are dedicated every single day on athlete safety.” Perry as well apologized to the young women who were sexually assaulted by Nassar.
