Teenager found in Mexico with 45 year old man

The end of a school day on March 5th left a mother confused and a Amber Alert issued.

When Miu Luu arrived to pick up her 16-year-old daughter Amy Yu at Lehigh Valley Academy Charter School in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, she was shocked. She learned that not only was her daughter missing, but that she had also been signed out a total of 10 times starting in November by a man claiming to be her stepfather..

The so called stepfather is actually Kevin Esterly, a 45 year old married man, who met Amy Yu at a church. It is believed that Yu modified school records and listed Esterly as her stepfather.

Just before Miu Luu’s daughter went to school, Miss Luu looked through her daughter’s phone and discovered inappropriate messages between her daughter and Kevin. She attempted to call and receive a restraining order against Kevin, but by that time it was too late, her daughter was already gone.

Luu soon realized that her daughter did not go empty handed. She had taken her passport along with her mother’s jewelry and cash.

Esterly’s wife reported her husband had taken 4,000 dollars from her bank account along with personal documents.

In prior months, Amy often spent time with the Esterly family.

Yu would go out to places with the family quite frequently. According to The Morning Call these places include “family camping and beach trips.”

Miu Luu also stated that Esterly showered more attention and care on her daughter than her son.

According to The Morning Call, “she would often ask Esterly to include her son on their family trips, but he refused.”

Amy had recently begun calling Esterly and his wife daddy and mommy.

Luu stated, “I asked Kevin, ‘Why does Amy call you daddy?’ and he said, ‘That’s normal. It’s normal because my daughter talks like that,'” she recounted to ABC News.

“I don’t believe that now.”

She told the police of a time when Yu ran away to be with Esterly for the holidays when her mother denied her permission.

The secretive relationship the two had led Yu’s mother to confront Esterly and tell him to leave her daughter alone; but that didn’t stop him.

Miu Luu expressed her worries for her daughter.

“I want to tell her, ‘Amy, can you come back to me? I love you. I just hope you come back.'”

Samuel Chen, a youth leader at their church who has known Amy for a long time says, “She’s going to need her friends, she’s going to need that social media interaction, she’s going to need her family and she’s going to realize it, and I think sooner than later.”

A warrant has been sent out for Esterly of charge of interference with the custody of a child. Authorities believe they may be driving a 1999 red, two-door Honda Accord with the Pennsylvania plate KLT 0529.

An Amber Alert was sent out in Mexico with authorities believing that both are travelling through Mexico territory.
