Spider-Man saves the day

A man has been nicknamed Spider-Man after he scaled a building in Paris four stories high to save a boy hanging by his fingertips on the edge of a balcony on May 27th.

The great Spider-Man whose actual name is Mamadou Gassama, at the age of  22, didn’t hesitate and let his instincts take over to quickly rescue the 4 year old in danger. President Macron awarded Gassama French citizenship for heroism.

Gassama is one of the many illegal immigrants from Mali. He came to France in September to stay with his elder brother. The day of the incident he was on his way to see a soccer finale with his girlfriend when they heard screaming and the honking of horns. They, then, witnessed the little boy clinging to the balcony.

“I just wanted to save him. That gave me courage,” stated the hero.

The video which went from Facebook, to Twitter, to Instagram as well as Youtube has millions of views and comments of praise for the fearless man.

Out of all the comments he received one commenter took upon himself to recognize him for his actions. The French president himself Emmanuel Macron is the one who gave Gassama citizenship along with a job.

Gassama would have never guessed when took a chance and traveled from Mali to France that he would be in the situation he is now. The mayor Anne Hidalgo of Paris met with him too, where she spoke with him and he explained that he arrived from Mali with a dream of building a successful life.

His dream along with courage, strength, hope, is what got him this praise.

“God helped me too. Thank God I saved him,” he said. When landing with the boy safely in his arms, he was shaking, not in fear but happiness that he was able to help.

The father in the child was taken into custody, and detained overnight for parental neglect. His scheduled court date is in September.

The father who left the child unsupervised in the home, was playing Pokemon Go as he was leaving the store. The mother was nowhere near Paris at the time.

Rapäel Glucksmann, a managing editor of the New Literary Magazine, posted on facebook the following, “And I dream of a country where it wouldn’t be necessary to scale a building to save a building to save the life of a child, at the risk of one’s life own life, to be treated like a human being when you are a migrant.”
