Was Batman almost killed off?

In the DCEU, Ben Affleck’s Batman death in the war against Darkseid in the Justice League sequel has recently been confirmed by Zack Snyder on the social media app Vero

The DCEU is notorious for stirring up controversy between fans. Some enjoy the film universe while others hate it. Now once again news from the DCEU has divided the fanbase.

On the social media app, Vero, a fan shared a picture of Superman holding a deceased Batman from a comic book titled Final Crisis #6 and wondered if this is something we would see in the DCEU.

“Of course,” Zack Snyder responded.

Later, it was said by Jay Olivia, a Justice League concept artist, that the DCEU was only supposed to be a 5 part film universe with the death of Batman being one of the endings to the story.

These films would consist of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Justice League II, along with another undecided fifth film.

Fans were outraged knowing Batman would’ve been a death in Snyder’s version of the movies. Previously Snyder killed off fan favorite character, Jimmy Olsen, who has been the best friend to Clark Kent/Superman in the comics, after only 5 minutes of screentime.

Also Snyder confirmed with the release of Batman V Superman that fan favorite Nightwing was also deceased and the Robin suit hanging in the Batcave belonged to Dick Grayson/Nightwing, the first Robin.

Fans were always divided on Snyder’s vision for the DCEU. Some like the modern take; while many want something a bit less grim.

With the news of Henry Cavill being dropped so soon, fans again are in outrage about Batman’s death.

Ben Affleck’s contract has been problematic since Batman v Superman. Fans didn’t know if he was leaving the DCEU or staying, due to his contract being three films long and people being confused about a short contract. Now with Snyder’s confirmation, it’s safe to say the short contract makes sense with the originally planned 5 film story.

With unexpected director changes and creative differences, Zack Snyder’s story for the DCEU will not be followed.

There are new movies already being developed branching away from the story like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, Suicide Squad, Nightwing, and many more.

Many things in this new universe have also been retcon, like the death of Nightwing never happening and the Robin suit in The Batcave belonging to Jason Todd, the second Robin, to create a more comic accurate and lighter DCEU to compete and fit in line with the ‘marveling’ MCU.

Ben Affleck was set to direct his own Batman film and has already written a finished script for it, but, after opting out to direct, Matt Reeves became the director of the new Batman solo film with Affleck attached to it as producer.

Neither Reeves nor Affleck are confirming if Affleck is in the role of The Batman.

Coming to theaters soon is Aquaman, in December, then followed by Shazam, in April. The sequel to Wonder Woman is currently being filmed.

Along with these, DC is holding special screenings for the 1978 Superman film along with the 1993 Batman: Mask of the Phantasm animated movie in participating theaters.

DC has also launched a new paid streaming service, like Netflix, with Titans being their first show. It is based off of the notorious superhero team the Teen Titans. The film was released October 12th 2018.
