Tiffany Ngyuen’s beautiful artwork pays tribute to nurses
This past week students at Naugatuck High School have been able to see the results of Tiffany Nguyen’s AP Art portfolio, which highlighted the effects of the pandemic on medical workers in the United States.
Nguyen, who is a senior at NHS, has spent the last two years planning, designing, and completing a total offifteen paintings that are now proudly displayed in the NHS Lobby of Legends.
The paintings all depict the struggles of medical workers and the stress they have been put under throughoutthe Covid-19 pandemic.
“The paintings represent the mental and physical aspects of a medical situation,” said Nguyen on herinspiration for the project.
“I knew that the medical workers have to go through so much, which is why I tried my best to evoke asmuch emotion of pain and hardship through each image.”
In total, the project took around 7-8 months total to complete and was submitted to the College Board as herAP Art final portfolio, receiving the highest score possible for her outstanding use of materials, technique, and visual presentation.
“Tiffany’s paintings show detailed evidence of research, planning, and investigation of the emotional impact of the pandemic on the essential workers - nurses,” said NHS art teacher Ms. Pertab.
Throughout the pandemic, many factors have taken a significant toll on the mental health of nurses including, limited knowledge of the virus, long work hours, risk of infection, and separation of families.
According to Nursing Times over 115,000 heath workers have now died from Covid- 19. Many others have left the profession.
Nguyen also noted that she plans on going into the medical field, potentially to be a Physician Assistant.
She had credited medical workers for being “so heroic. Even before the pandemic, I knew that medical workers have to go through so much.”
“I tried my best to evoke as much emotion of pain and hardship throughout each image, but there was so much more that I wish I could have shown,” she continued.
We encourage all students and staff to take some time to visit her display in the Lobby of Legends.
