Coco Jones is a 26-year-old multi-talented American singer-songwriter and actress. For her amazing work, she deserves a celebration this Black History Month.
Jones is a child actress. She starred in shows such as “Good Luck Charlie”, “Let It Shine”, “Grandma’s House”, and is currently starring in “Bel-Air” as Hilary Banks. Jones first gained recognition in 2006 when competing on “Radio Disney” where she became best known for her song “Real You”.
Jones has earned many award nominations, including taking home the 2024 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Jones was also nominated for Best New Artist alongside Noah Khan, Gracie Abrams, Victoria Monet, and more.
Jones had been flying under the radar for years since her childhood career due to situations that couldn’t be controlled and that felt like unappreciation. “It felt like I dedicated my whole life to the industry and they [didn’t] give a damn about me,” Jones explained in an interview with Teen Vogue.
This talented star comes from generations of talent. Micheal Jones her father is an American rapper whose single titled “Still Trippin” hit 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart along with a retired NFL linebacker with 13 successful seasons.
Javonda Jones, Coco’s mother, is a session vocalist and one of her biggest supporters. In 2023 Jones shared with PopSugar her appreciation for her mother. Jones even goes out of the way to describe her mother as an “earth queen!”, selfless, and how crucial she has been over the years.
According to family members of Jones, she was singing before she could even talk. Jones would often sing at her local church bringing many to tears “Everybody would cry when Courtney would sing at church.” according to Javonda.
“I’ve only recently started listening to Coco, but her new EP has been on repeat for me. Her voice is so beautiful and I can see her being the future of the music industry.” said an NHS sophomore in an interview with The Greyhound.
“What I Didn’t Tell You” was released on November 4th, 2022 which was Jones’ second EP with a total of 11 songs including her second single “ICU”. This hit single peaked at number 16 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Jones has been featured on multiple albums such as “Larger Than Life”, Brent Faiyaz, “222”, Lil Tjay, “Snow angle (Deluxe)”, Reneé Rapp, the soundtrack of “The Color Purple”, and more.
As it is clear that Jones is quickly rising to fame, her career is undoubtedly going to keep growing. Fans are excited to see what she does next, it is clear that Jones is an inspiration to many and will continue to strive at what she does best.
