Still Going Strong

Tripp Halstead, a 2-year old boy, was struck by a 10 foot tree limb on October 29th 2012 during Hurricane Sandy at Cribs to Crayons daycare in Jefferson, Georgia. Tripp was playing outside when a big gust of wind came out of nowhere and knocked over the branch and hit Tripp on the head causing severe brain damage. He spent five months in the hospital undergoing surgeries to help him with his disabilities. Doctors told his parents to prepare for the worst.

However, three and a half years later, Tripp is currently recuperating from hip surgery, his sixteenth surgery. Although traumatic, Tripp and his family have been strong and Tripp is making it through despite the odds stacked against him and he is continuing to do well.

His most recent recovery will take about 10 weeks. The surgery consisted of cutting and lengthening tendons cutting the femur bone and using it in his hip socket and three incisions on each side. Tripp is unable to walk his hips have slowly moved apart causing need for this surgery.

“It will be the most painful recovery,” Stacy said, Tripp’s mother. “But Tripp is one tough cookie and he has the love and support of millions around the world. He’s got this!”

Following this hip surgery Tripp is having a spine and skull operation. They will be putting rods in his back with anchors in his hips  and he will have to go back every three months for checkups. The Doctors removed a part of his skull where the swelling was. Recovery should take about 10 weeks.
