Arnold Palmer dies at 87
Arnold Palmer, a native of Latrobe, Pennsylvania and nicknamed “The King” passed away at the age of 87, on September 25, 2016. Palmer died at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania while undergoing heart surgery. Palmer,was father of Amy and Peggy Palmer and husband to Kathleen Gawthrop and a world renowned golfer and celebrity.
Palmer’s career started off with a bang. He started his career by winning the first major tournament he participated in during his rookie season, The 1955 Canadian Open. This was the only the start of a very bright golfing future for him.ng this tournament once is already a major accomplishment in itself but to do it four times is something only Palmer has been capable throughout. For this fact and many other feats in the golf, he is known and recognized as one of the greatest golfers of all time.
Palmer was the first golfer to win the Masters Tournament four times; he has won over 80 major tournaments.
In Palmer’s hometown of Latrobe Pennsylvania, he has an airport named after him, Arnold Palmer Regional Airport. The airport was named after him in 1999 on his 70th birthday.
Palmer is also known for this tremendous abilities on the course, but he is also famous because of the famous drink named after him.. In 1960 Palmer was at the U.S. Open at the Cherry Hills country club in Denver. When ordering the drink a nearby lady overheard Palmer, and ordered that “Palmer drink” thus giving the beverage its name.
Arizona Iced Tea signed Arnold Palmer without knowing the attention his drink was going to be booming in the industry up into this day. That ‘’Palmer” drink is the highest selling product that the company has ever had. Even now Palmer is the face of Arizona Iced Tea.
Although Palmer is gone his legacy continues. Palmer’s grandson, Sam Saunders, a professional golfer. Saunder became a professional golfer in 2008 after attending Clemson University in South Carolina on a scholarship. With the help of his grandson his golf legacy will as well as through his own accomplishments will forever live on. through him and the golfing industry which has a great amount of respect. Palmers fame will never be forgotten with all of this accomplishments.
