Naugy Soccer boys wins NVL Championship
The Naugatuck Greyhounds Boys Soccer team won the NVL Championship to make an outstanding run to complete the class of 2017’s ‘four peat’. The Naugatuck Greyhounds defeated Oxford Wolverines in a overwhelming performance last Thursday at Veterans Field.
In the early minutes of the game the Greyhounds came out strong with a goal off the right wing from junior Matt Carroll, “It really set the tone of the game, it let my team know that I had their backs,” Carroll said.
Captain Devon Curtis led the Greyhounds unstoppable defense and it resulted in a scoreless game. “We felt we had to do whatever it takes to win. If that meant sacrificing our bodies then it was worth it.” Curtis said “We were willing to take that sacrifice for each other to win the title.”
Curtis played a big part of the ‘four peat’ throughout all his years he was a key player for the Greyhounds’ defense. “I feel very accomplished, being trusted at such a young age is tough for someone to handle. This is something that I not only wanted to do for myself I wanted to do this for the underclassmen coming up to carry this legacy.”
The Greyhounds now enter the state tournament as the number one seed. They are set to face the Kennedy Eagles another NVL team, “There’s plenty of big teams in the LL tournament,we are not going to have it won. Nothing is ever given to us. We must keep our momentum going from the regular session. We are going to be ready for whatever gets thrown our way.” Curtis said.
The Greyhounds look to make a run in the state tournament.
