It’s official! Donald Trump defeats Secretary Hillary Clinton to become the 45th U.S. president. The 70-year-old Republican garnered 290 electoral votes and nearly 47.5 percent of the popular vote, while Hillary Clinton captured 232 electoral votes and more than 47.7 percent of the popular vote. Clinton won the most popular vote. When Donald Trump was announced President-elect of the United States, many Americans were very disappointed. There has been rioting going on in Oregon, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and many other states.
While Trump is in office, his platforms are that, he plans to immediately deport approximately 2 to 3 million undocumented immigrants, In a recent 60 Minutes Interview, Trump said, “we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate.” Another plan he has is, to build a wall along the U.S Mexico border.
In June 2015, Trump announced his candidacy for president as a Republican and quickly emerged as the front-runner for his party’s nomination. In May 2016, his remaining Republican rivals were, Governor John Kasich, and U.S Senator Ted Cruz, suspended their campaigns, and in July he was formally nominated for president at the 2016 Republican National Convention. About 60,371,193 million Americans cast their vote for Trump, while about 61,039,676 million voters chose Clinton.
On Friday, January 20, 2017, President-elect Trump will be sworn in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol at noon, that is when President Barack Obama term ends.
