Blizzard 2017 clean up continues

A large and powerful Nor’easter blizzard nearly brought two feet of snow to some parts of Connecticut and the clean up still continues. Tuesday’s forecast predicted the snow starting around 4 a.m.  and  falling at nearly 2 inches per hour in parts of the state making travel very tough!

According to WTNH’s Storm Team 8 Chief Meteorologist, Gil Simmons, the snowfall came in amounts of 15-25 inches. The shoreline expected 10-15 inches but received much less.

Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland, Middlesex, and New London counties were issued on a blizzard warning, except for Southeast shoreline, which was issued a winter storm warning because of the potential of sleet and rain in that area.

Many towns and cities in Connecticut snow totals saw between 2-25 inches of snow. Naugatuck-12 inches

Waterbury- 14 inches

Hartford- 14 inches

Farmington- 14.5 inches

New Haven- 6 inches

Berlin- 24.2 inches

Mystic – 2.1 inches

Governor Dannel Malloy issued a travel ban on state roads effective 5AM Tuesday morning, it was lifted 5pm Tuesday evening. If you are caught being on the roads, you will face a $92.00 fine. Heavy winds also affect the storm with winds gusting over 60 mph.

Since we had large amounts of snow, Here are tips for you to prepare for the next Nor’easter if possible.

  • Fill your vehicle with or at least of full tank of gas, because if you have a quarter tank, the gasoline will freeze.
  • Have flashlights and candles.
  • Non-perishable food, and bottled water.
  • Keep warm by having blankets, and dress in layers
  • Cell phone with chargers
  • A 7-day supply of medication
  • Pet supplies
  • Extra cash
