Let’s remember folks, it’s April

“Stanton went deep TWICE! The Red Sox lost, the Yankees are going to the World Series!!!”

That was many Yankees’ fans reaction after Opening Day back on March 29th. It’s now April 10th, and the Red Sox and Yankees are getting ready for their first series of the year, and Boston is sitting at 8-1 and New York is sitting at .500.

Red Sox fans have been mocking Yankees’ fans for the whole year after Stanton’s big Opening Day, but the thing they need to remember, it’s still April.

Giancarlo Stanton, the reining NL MVP, who got traded to the Yankees in the offseason, is off to an abysmal start. He’s 7-42 (.167) with 3 homers, 7 RBI and 20 strikeouts. You read that right. He’s struck out in almost half his at bats.

Sox fans love the fact that Stanton is struggling so much, but, in his defense, he always gets off to a slow start. Stanton is a .250 lifetime hitter in March and April. His next lowest average in a month is July, where he’s a .262 hitter.

Okay yes, the strikeouts are still a problem, but, again, he has 209 career strikeouts in the opening month, his second highest total in any month.

Stanton hit .281 with 59 homers and 132 RBI last year on his way to his first career MVP. It’ll come along, he’s too good of a hitter to keep up this pace. He’s going to hit his 40+ homers and drive in near 100, if not more, everyone can calm down, he’s going to be just fine.

Okay, now Sox fans. You’ve had some fun, 8 in a row, sitting pretty at 8-1, feeling good, and loving life. Let’s remember, through 9 games, you’ve played the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays. They both suck.

The Marlins gave up 20 runs to the Phillies a few days ago and if the Rays win 75 games everyone will be in shock. Congrats Boston, you’ve beaten up on teams that will play for draft picks. That’s what you’re supposed to do.

Let’s face it. Come September 28th, the last weekend of the season, the Yankees and Red Sox will most likely be playing each other for the AL East crown. Baseball season is fun; it’s fun to talk trash to friends who root for the rival team, but let’s remember, we’re still less than 15 games into the 162 game season, let’s all calm down a bit.
