Hero teacher thwarts an attack

On Friday, the 25th of May, Noblesville West Middle School suffered a tragedy, as yet another school shooting occurred, as students and teachers feared for their lives at the hands of a student who had opened fire in his seventh grade science classroom.

In light of unfortunate circumstances, the students of Noblesville have chosen to focus on the good and acknowledge a true hero, Jason Seaman. Seaman, a 7th-grade science teacher at Noblesville West Middle School, made the life threatening decision that morning and demonstrated an unwavering love for his students, bravery, and selflessness.

“Seaman spoke publicly for the first time this past Monday since he was shot three times” according to CNN.

During his speech he stated, “I deeply care for my students and their well-being. So that is why I did what I did.”

“Mr. Seaman started running at him. He tackled him to the ground,” one boy told reporters shortly after the shooting Friday.

“We were all hiding in the back of a classroom behind some desks, then [Seaman] was yelling to call 911, to get out of the building as fast as we could, so we ran [out],” the student told CNN.

Seaman also thanked a Noblesville High School student who set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical bills.

“I can’t really fathom how someone I have not personally met would do such an act of kindness and how the Noblesville community has been so generous in its response to it,” Seaman added.

Without Seaman’s courageous actions last Friday, the ramifications of this tragedy would have been much worse. On Friday the 25th, a teacher choose to value his students’ lives  more than his own. These actions and the gratification they deserve cannot be repaid, however, they can be recognized.

Thank you, Jason Seamon, for being a light in a world full of darkness. Thank you for giving the world hope, in time so full of despair. Thank you.
