Big Papi hits the big 500
This past Saturday, history was made in Major League Baseball. David Ortiz, of the Boston Red Sox, hit a home run ball to right field to hit his 500th career home run. He is the twenty-seventh player to accomplish this feat, and only the fourth member of the Red Sox to do so.
If David Ortiz is not already in the top players of all time conversation, he certainly is now. Guys like Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Ted Williams accomplished the 500 home run feat and they are all Hall of Famers and legends in the sport. Big Papi, as Ortiz in known, has now entered one of the most exclusive clubs in baseball, a club that only the best of the best are in. It would be hard to argue the success of Big Papi throughout his career, seeing he is a three time World Series champ, nine time All-Star, six time Silver Slugger, and now a member of the 500 home run club.
David Ortiz started his playing career of with the Minnesota Twins where he got off to a slow start to his career. Through his six years with the Twins, he only hit fifty eight home runs and wasn’t an everyday starter. Then, in 2003, Big Papi’s career was rejuvenated when he went to play baseball for the Boston Red Sox, and the rest was history.
Now that David Ortiz has accomplished one of the rarest feats in baseball, the last milestone for him is becoming a Hall of Famer. With his list of accomplishments, it would be hard to argue the fact that he shouldn’t belong. Whether or not Ortiz is inducted to the Hall, he will go down as one of the greatest hitters of all time. Hitting his 500th home run simply solidified his career and his accomplishments.

Corey what a great article about one of your favorite players. You always loved to write from a very young age and what a great opportunity this is for you. Continue following your dreams and hopefully we’ll be seeing you on ESPN in the future. Great job on your first published piece.
