Derrick Rose will return to the NBA

On November 29, Derrick Rose decided to continue his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers after insinuating, on November 24,  that he may retire due to his extensive injuries.

Derrick Rose began his NBA career in the ‘08-09’ season and automatically drew attention to his game. He averaged 16.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game, playing an average of 37 minutes. That rookie season he proved best in his draft class and won Rookie of the Year. Later in his career in 2011 he won league MVP and was the youngest player to do so at only 22.

On November 3rd 2013, Derrick Rose was on the court playing against the Philadelphia 76ers when towards the end of the game he fell to the ground clutching his knee.

Later that week they found out he has suffered an ACL tear. And his struggles with injuries began.  In eight seasons, he has missed a total of 257 games due to injury or health concerns.

“We hope this ain’t the end,” said teammate LeBron James when asked about Derrick’s options.

The Cavs acquired Rose in the 2017 offseason off free agency. The guard spent his first seven seasons in the NBA as the starting point guard of the Chicago Bulls. He was then signed to the New York Knicks for the 2016-2017 season.

The former all-star has begun to slowly decline in terms of production since bursting onto the scene and making his mark. His points per game has dropped from a career high of 25 in 2010 to 14.3 points per game this season.

Rose’s injuries have plagued him but with his decision to continue playing basketball, he’s trying to overcome the pain of injury and continue to try and perform at the highest basketball level possible.

“We’re happy that he’s not giving up on his love at this point in his life and his career and he’s ready to return,” said James.
