Maybe at NVL’s?

This past Friday at Naugatuck High School the greyhounds hosted the Seymour Wildcats for a nail biting volleyball game. The Wildcats won 3-0, but the ‘Hounds fought fearlessly in an attempt to end the undefeated streak the Seymour girls enjoy.

Leading the ‘Hounds was senior tri-captain Alexa Blazas with 9 kills and 1 ace. Following behind was senior Kathryn Healy with 4 kills and Junior Olivia Rotatori with 3 kills and 3 blocks. Tri- captain Ally Mezzo hit 2 kills for the greyhounds, and tri-captain Jenna Massicotte along with junior Taylor Hyde each got a kill for themselves as well.

The scores of each set of this exciting match were 25-27, 22-25, and 21-25. Although the ‘Hounds did not win a set, they still take pride in their play in Friday’s bout. For the past few years the Greyhounds have fought hard and strong against the Seymour Wildcats, in a constant back and forth of wins and losses. It seems as though each year the competition grows stronger and the tension between these teams becomes greater.

During the fall of 2013, Naugy and Seymour played their only match together in the season and the ‘Hounds suffered a tough loss. They thought this would be their last meeting, but they were proven wrong when they were paired for the first round of the 3 round NVL Championship tournament. The Wildcats came in having the higher seed and the stronger record, but it was the Greyhounds who left the gym victorious.

Since the 2013 season, Naugatuck and Seymour have had a tension between them that cannot be broken. Both the ‘Hounds and the returning champs the Wildcats look forward to the rest of the season as well as the NVL tournament.
